House Blessings

Moving into a new home is an occasion for great joy as well as great stress.  Homes can also be where we spend much of our time with family, with friends, and with God.  A house blessing is a wonderful way to ask for God’s blessing in all that will take place in a new home.

The Episcopal Church has a special liturgy for house blessings that can include general prayers for the home, blessings for each individual room, prayers for the occupants, and prayers for banishment of evil from a home with an unsavory history.

House blessings can be done at any time, during the move in process, or weeks or months later when the dust has settled.  They can be informal, with just family members and a priest, or part of larger celebrations such as a house warming party.
